Paizo Pawns in Action!
Paizo Pawns in Action!

Pawns are an excellent way of getting artwork accurate 2D miniatures for your tabletop RPGs. Many of you will be familiar with the Pawns that Paizo and our friends at Kobold Press publish with their bestiaries. The pawns for Revenge of the Horde are done by the same production facility and have the same quality specs as Kobold Press.

There will be 258 pawns in this pack so you get multiples of some of the smaller monsters (each duplicate will be numbered for easy use) and you get singles of some of the larger monsters with high challenge ratings. The pawns include just the full color chipboard pieces so you'll need to provide your own stands which can be found here: http://paizo.com/products/btpy9mc9?Pathfinder-Pawns-Base-Assortment

You can upgrade your pledge level to a pledge that has +PAWNS in the title to receive 1 pack of pawns, or you can add $25 to your pledge (if you are getting the hardcover of Revenge of the Horde) and you'll receive a pack of pawns with your order. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Here are some examples of the Kobold Press Pawns from Tome of Beasts!

Gnolls Preview
over 7 years ago – Tue, Aug 30, 2016 at 11:02:39 AM

Rock Gnoll, Plains Gnoll, Gutter Gnoll
Rock Gnoll, Plains Gnoll, Gutter Gnoll

A sound resembling a child's giggle distorts hideously into an inhuman, whooping call that reverberates through abandoned buildings of old stone and thatch. The dirt and dust of the narrow street has been churned and trampled with fresh blood by panicked feet. A stooped figure lopes from the shadows, licking its saliva-dripping, bloodstained chops. A smell of rot emanates from it, a stagnant charnel-stink of old blood and old flesh caught between yellowing fangs. It takes a moment to thread the ragged stump of a finger onto the twine looped around its thickly muscled neck. Its notched ears twitch at the faint sound of a cry, and, hackles raised, it surges towards the origin. This is a gnoll.

"Yeah, I knew a gnoll once; Dag bought it as a pup for a laugh. I saw it rip Maggo's arm off at the shoulder, and that was one of the little ones."  -Dannik, Jackdaws gang member

Ralph: I've always been fascinated by hyenas; a lot of people dismiss them as simple scavengers, but they actually have a really interesting social structure which I've enjoyed anthropomorphising into the three gnoll cultures with their strong sense of clan loyalty above all else - gnolls might scrap amongst themselves, or even kill each other, but the needs of the clan outweigh any personal grievances.  The first D&D session where I felt my group and I really clicked with the game involved a group of gnolls seeking retribution, so they'll always be a bit special.

Cave Troll, Forest Troll, Frost Troll
Cave Troll, Forest Troll, Frost Troll

The hill quakes, a lone edifice in the otherwise featureless meadow. An intake of breath like grating stone elicits little more than an ear twitch from the goat grazing at the summit. A scrubby briar quivers and is uprooted, falling along with a shower of pebbles, rolling down the increasingly vertical surface. A lumpy, five-pronged object vaguely resembling a rocky hand the size of a man's torso plants itself on the ground in a shower of soil. Another gropes and paws blindly, pinning down its bleating quarry. Heaving its bulk upright, the craggy form reveals itself. Brushing dust off its enormous nose, it yawns thunderously, revealing gravestone-slab tusks lining its cavernous maw before biting down. The bleating is immediately cut short; a trickle of blood dribbles from mossy lips. The lone hill settles, silent. This is a troll.

Lot 83 The finely stuffed skins of a forest troll group (bull, cow and calf) presented in poses true to life and in a naturalistic setting. Impressive centrepiece for entertaining, dinner parties, etc. A bonus for any thrill seeker: the bull troll seemingly survived the experience and may be drawn to the piece over great distances. Strong security measures are a must! Prospective buyers may find lot 96: automated flame jet and lot 104: acid sprinkler system of interest in this regard. -Listing from last auction held at The Silvercleft Auction House.

Lou: We conceptualized the trolls on a trip up to San Francisco. Ralph and I were staying with Chris and his lovely wife for a couple of weeks and we had taken to carrying round a big pad and pen; wherever we went and I wrote down everything we talked about in the form of big mindmaps that spread out from the middle of the paper. This was apparently a completely new form of note-taking to Chris (who is a list man!) which amused me. I loved writing the trolls chapter because each one is so different, yet their incredible adaptability means that a forest troll could completely transform into a frost troll gradually over a couple months. Their connection to such a wide variety of environments means that they can be used in almost any game setting or world, and their stealth and camouflage tactics mixed with their great size and strength make them formidable opponents and very difficult to take down. There's nothing like a troll ambush to bring a party together in a glorious moment of, "Oh... sh*t."

Final Stretch Goals?
over 7 years ago – Fri, Aug 26, 2016 at 11:57:16 AM

Please cast your vote:

http://www.strawpoll.me/11085785

We are contemplating additional stretch goals, but we'd rather not just have stretch goals for the sake of having stretch goals. We want stretch goals that add real content to the book.

Thanks for backing our project and participating in the vote!
