Latest Updates from Our Project:

Good Things Come In Threes!
over 7 years ago – Sun, Sep 04, 2016 at 03:51:39 AM

1. New Stretch Goal! $50,000 Tools of the Horde - What foul craft is this?! We will add a variety of items including weapons, armor, and potions (which do not exactly adhere to manufacturer's specifications. Drinking said potions may result in side effects. You've been warned).

2. Revenge of the Horde for Pathfinder. For all of our Pathfinder brothers and sisters, we have submitted a request to launch the Pathfinder Kickstarter campaign. We will post a link as soon as it goes live. We had intended to launch it today, but Kickstarter doesn't normally allow project creators to run multiple campaigns at the same time (this was news to us) but hopefully they will allow it in our case as it's the same book, just a different rule system. If we are not permitted to do so, we will launch it ASAP after this campaign ends.

3. Google Hangout Live at Noon PST! Lou, Ralph, and Chris will answer your questions about Revenge of the Horde. All you need is to tune in on YouTube and join the conversation. We will provide a link in an update once we are live.

Okiti Preview

Okiti Swashbuckler and Assassin
Okiti Swashbuckler and Assassin

The bright moon glints off pavestones slick with bootleg rum, fish scales and seawater and the smell of salt is strong in the air. A coinpurse, dropped clumsily by a maudlin sailor earlier in the evening lies sodden, with its sparse contents vomited on the damp stone. The sounds of the town are far off; here only the waves break the silence of deepest night. All looks still and lifeless, but expert eyes pierce the gloom, watching, and adept feet scuttle silently and invisibly through the crags and crannies. A sudden flash of scarlet silk disappears into a gutter. The coinpurse has vanished. An undulating shape emerges from the darkness and streaks towards the bilges of a docked ship. Not one, but many small creatures, scurrying in perfect unison and almost immediately swallowed by night. These are okiti.

Those who think okiti nothing more than a charming nuisance need only open a book of medical history to see their folly. Firebrow, Rat-Bite Fever, Knotgut, Yellow Horror, Rot Bones, The Red Death (which commoners call ‘dead by dinner’), The Four Day Shakes; all of these and more see their first victim taken in a city with a known okiti problem. -Kozel Encona, A Primer to the Healing Arts

Lou: Although rodent-human hybrids are by no means an entirely new concept, the Okiti are, for all intents and purposes, our own original monstrous race, so we had the freedom to have fun and do what we liked with them. They remind me somewhat of the khatjiit from Elder Scrolls lore; exotic, stealthy bestial-humanoids with quick wits and even quicker hands. When I wrote their names (in both Okiti and Common tongues) it was a Khajiiti voice in my head that spoke them.

Okiti almost didn't make it into the final book - when we originally conceptualised them we were concerned that they would be too similar to goblins. As we continued to talk and write however, they moved further and further away in terms of skills, ethics, style and mentality. Their only common trait now is their small stature. We wanted the okiti to have a lot of personality, and real potential to be written into games as NPCs and allies as well as monsters, and now we've unlocked the stretch goal, I'm excited to start writing them up as a playable race so I can create one to play as in a future game!

Orcs Preview

Dust and ash swirl in the air, kicked up by the fall of heavy boots, lit by the flames engulfing the remaining buildings. The sound of deep laughter and war cries almost drowns out the sound of screams. Almost. From the cloud of fume, separating himself from the heaving shadows, he emerges at full charge, adjusting his calloused hands on the haft of the bloody, rough-edged axe. The thick pelts, hides, and leathers rise and fall with each pounding footstep like an angry sea. He yells with animal bloodlust, exposing cracked, yellow tusks, distorting the pattern of scars, raised bumps of flesh, caked warpaint and spattered blood that covers his face. The stench of sweat and untreated hides, of blood and death and fear flow before him. His roar builds to a crescendo, and he brings down the axe with terrible force. This is an orc.

"Orcs' natural strength and stamina could make them natural dancers, given the right tutor." - Vayrne Emert, dancemaster and subject of The Unusually Cruel Death of Vayrne Emert

Chris: Orcs! We all know what they are, but there are so many variations on the concept. We've drawn from several sources to come up with the orcs for Revenge of the Horde, but the two primary influences were from Lord of the Rings, and Warcraft. First an foremost, we wanted to make sure they had a culture and didn't come off as a mindless group of brutes. Additionally, we wanted to make them formidable and frightening to encounter, especially in a group. We wanted them to hit hard and be difficult to kill, so we gave them a few neat features which we know you'll enjoy. Ralph did an exceptional job with the art direction as you can see, and these orcs turned out exactly as we had envisioned when we started this whole project.
